Quick method of Creating a PowerPoint Presentation (.PPT) (PowerPoint Instructions.rtf) Open PowerPoint. Select Choose a New presentation using - Blank Presentation OK New Slide Choose an Autolayout - BLANK (bottom right one in box) OK There are five small icons on bottom of LEFT panel. These are shortcuts to the Right panel display format. They are: Normal view, Outline view, Slide view, Slide Sorter view, SlideShow view Formatting Slide Show (Best for showing Photographs) On the Toolbar Select Format Select Font Choose either Arial, Tahoma, Times New Roman. Nothing too exotic or difficult to read from a distance. Choose Regular, Choose between 14 and 18 size, Color White On the Toolbar Select Format Select Background Choose Black ad the Background Fill - Apply to all Adding Blank Slides. On the bottom left click the Slide Sorter view. Position mouse to the right of slide 1 and click. The quickest method to add blank slides is by the keyboard shortcut keys. Press and hold Ctrl key, press and release the "M" key. The New Slide box appears, Blanks Auto layout should be highlighted. Press the "Enter" keys will add a new blank slide to the presentation. Repeat for as many slide you like. Ctrl- M - Enter Adding Photos to a Blank Slide. Switch to the Slide View screen display by clicking on the small icon on the bottom left of the screen. On the Toolbar Select INSERT Choose from file The Insert Picture Dialog box appears. Navigate to your folder of photographs on your PC. On the Insert Picture dialog box Toolbar Select the down arrow to the right of the Views icon. Choose Preview. You can now see a small preview of the photograph. Use the Keyboard Down Arrow key to see the next photo in the folder. Click Insert or Hit the Enter keyboard key to insert the photo into the Slide Show slide. Photo Adjustments. (see Notes below) In the Slide view small white squares from the photo and the mouse cursor is a arrow cross. Move the cursor outside the photo frame, left click mouse to lock the photo in place. To adjust, move the cursor over the photo and left click again. Hold the Left mouse key to move the photo around in the slide frame.. Move the mouse over one of the Corner Square white dots. Press and hold the left mouse key to resize photo. Press the Keyboard Delete key to remove the photo. You can add more than one photo in a slide frame. The keyboard Page up and Page Down keys will move through the slide. As will the scroll bar on the right. Arraigning the Slides. Select the Slide Sorter view icon on the bottom left. Left click and hold on the slide to move. Move the mouse to the position to place the slide, release the left mouse key. Click anywhere outside a slide to remove selected slide. To select more than one slide, hold the keyboard Shift key while clicking on slides. Release Shift key and move all of the Select slides at once. Adding Text to a Slide. On the Bottom Task select small Text Box Icon In the slide click and hold the Left mouse key, then drag the mouse to the right and release mouse key. type a sentence inside the box. Hit the Enter key for a new line. Pace mouse over the box outline to move it the slide. Click outside the box to lock in place. Repeat to add a new Text Box in the slide. Review your Presentation. Select the SlideShow view icon to see your show. Use the Keyboard Page Up, Page down keys to run through the slide. Or the left mouse key or the Enter key. When at the last slide the show will go back to the previous View menu. Saving the Slide Show. From the Toolbar, Choose File then Save As. Type the name of the show in the File Name box. Click the Down Arrow of the Save as type. Scroll down to PowerPoint Show (*ppt). Select Save. Exit PowerPoint Revising the PowerPoint Presentation (*ppt). Open PowerPoint. Choose Open an existing presentation. Select the one you created to modify. NOTES; Use the Help Menu for more detail instruction. When moving a PowerPoint Show to another PC that contains a VIDEO file the Video file MUST be move to the new PC also. Use Imaging software to reduce or crop a photograph to fit into a PowerPoint slide. OPEN OFFICE Impress The interface of the Open Offices Impress slide show program is very similar in layout as PowerPoint. Shortcut keys used in PowerPoint do not apply to Impress. Navigation the screens of Impress is should not be a problem for those who PowerPoint now. NOTES; It is suggested that the Impress slide show be saved as a *.ODF file and a *.PPT file. PowerPoint is able to read the *.PPT, but Impress had difficultly reading a *.PPT created with Impress. To make a changes to the slide show use Impress to open the *.ODF file. After making changes save the slide show as a *.PPT file again.
